About Dog Obedience Training

Whether your dog is a brand new puppy or an older dog, obedience training is a critical component of training your dog. Today, we're going to look at three common behavioral issues in dogs.

  1. Barking

One of the most common behaviors exhibited by dogs is barking. Typically, dogs bark whenever they get excited, nervous, or protective. However, there is a point at which barking goes too far. Two instances of barking going too far include if your dog is aggressively barking or if they bark constantly. To stop this behavior, teach your dog the "bark" command. From there, teach them the "quiet" command when they begin barking excessively.

  1. Running Off

Another common obedience issue shown by dogs is running off. Often, dogs will run off to meet with other dogs or explore outside of the yard. This behavior is potentially dangerous, and should be nipped at the bud. To prevent your dog from running off, train them to come to you when you say the command "come." If this does not work, consider investing in an electric dog fence.

  1. Potty Training

A problem many dog owners experience is when their pets pee and poo throughout the house. This behavior is unruly and annoying. The best way to prevent this behavior is to housebreak your dog when they're a puppy. This will make it quite a bit easier. If your dog is an adult and still has potty issues, be sure to take your dog outside consistently. If this issue persists, it's best to seek professional help.

Hopefully, this post has provided you with some valuable information about how you can effectively train your dog. Whether your dog is a puppy or fully-grown, these tips should help your dog become better behaved.
